New Delhi: Siddharth Vashishtha alias Manu Sharma, the convict in the infamous murder case of Jessica Lal in the year 1999 was released from prison after serving 17 years of in prison, sources said on Tuesday.
Sharma, was released on Monday evening along with some other inmates on the grounds of good conduct, ordered by Delhi’s Home department. Sentence Review Board (SRB) is chaired by Delhi’s Home Minister and the other members include Principal Home and Law secretaries of the state, DG Prisons and other important officials.
After the board’s recommendation, the decision was signed by the Lieutenant Governor Delhi Anil Baijal. Earlier, Sharma’s plea had been rejected several times by the SRB.
Former Union Minister and Haryana Congress leader Vinod Sharma’s son , Manu was convicted in December 2006 and sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder case of Jessica Lal, way back in 1999.
Manu was already out on parole due to the measures taken by the prison authorities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the prison. On April 29, 1999 Siddharth Vashishth alias Manu Sharma had shot dead Jessica Lal , a 34-year-old model, at a restaurant in Delhi when she refused to serve him liquor. (UNI)
