GUWAHATI: A Day Care Cancer Centre along with a NCD Kiosk- Swasth Assam has come up at Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh. The centre was inaugurated by Assam’s Health Minister, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.
He also had a review meeting with senior Health, PWD, Education department officials on COVID-19 situation in the district.
“Today I am visiting Dibrugarh Tinsukia Sivasagar and Charaideo districts. I have reviewed the works related to COVID19 in Dibrugarh district and observed that it is going on satisfactorily. There are around 15000 people of Dibrugarh district who are staying outside the state. Till date around 3000 have returned and we expect another 4500 are likely to return. We have discussed regarding the arrangements for their quarantine and stay. It is good to know that most of the returnees have followed the home and institutional quarantine protocols,” he said.
“We are also looking whether we can provide one time amount of Rs 6000 to those who have not received Rs 2,000 per month from Assam Care. The Government of Assam is constructing a level 3 cancer hospital in Association with Tata Trust under Assam Cancer Care Foundation at Assam Medical College. The construction work is going on but it is delayed for some time due to the present situation.
Therefore, we have inaugurated an Oncology CARE centre to provide Radiation and Chemotherapy on priority basis. We have recruited a 50-member team including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses and other staff to start the service. From today onwards Chemotherapy can be done in this centre. From September, 2020 the radiation facility will also be started here,” the minister informed.
A Well Being Screening Centre for Cancer Patients has also been inaugurated today at the OPD campus of Assam Medical College.
