SHILLONG: Meghalaya is a prominent name on the tourism map of the country but certain areas in the state with tremendous potential in the sector still remain unexplored or neglected.
One such region is Jaintia Hills that has several scenic and exotic tourist spots but only a few locations like Dawki, Krang Suri and Tyrshi Falls have become popular over the years whereas several exotic locations in West Jaintia Hills remain largely unexplored.
However, PWD (Buildings) minister and Raliang MLA Comingone Ymbon wants to ensure that exotic locations in Jaintia Hills must also get due recognition and should be promoted as well. He has submitted a proposal to the chief minister to develop two tourism projects, including the Samanong Waterfall.
“There are indeed many places that can be turned into tourist hotspots in East and West Jaintia Hills which has so far not been touched,” he said on Thursday.
“If this proposal is approved, the community there will get lot of benefits,” he added.
