GUWAHATI: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has taken strong exception to the “repeated postponement” of recruitment of nursing officers under National Health Mission (NHM) “without any valid reason or justification”.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the union said that it has received reports of unnecessary and induced ordeals faced by nurses preparing for interviews (nursing officer under NHM), due to such last minute cancellation and postponement.

“Almost all of the aspirants had reached their respective district headquarters for the interviews after making heavy travel expenses and other arrangements,” it said.

An advertisement was issued on May 26, 2020 by the office of the mission director (NHM) regarding the process for recruitment of 150 nursing officers in different districts of the state.

This was done after postponement and partial modification of the earlier advertisements for the same posts which were issued on February 26, 2020 and May 12, 2020.

“From the very beginning, we have been stressing for upgrade and overall revamp of the health infrastructure in the state. This also includes creation of jobs and filling up of vacancies in the health sector. Along with doctors and other health staff, nursing officers are an important part of our frontline workers. The state needs more nurses,” the union said.

It further said that the collective conscience of the government and the health department should be to streamline the department and fill all vacancies immediately in all the hospitals, community health centres and primary health centres.

“We urge the state government to initiate corrective measures and avoid any further delay in recruitment of frontline workers in the health department, particularly nursing officers,” the union added.
