Police havildar posted at BoP kills self in Hailakandi

GUWAHATI: A police havildar of 15 AP(IR) Battalion Headquarter at Eraligool, Karimganj, Suren Rabha allegedly killed self by shooting himself with his 9 mm service carbine at Baruncherra Border Outpost (BoP) under Katlicherra Police Station at around 11.20 pm on Friday.

Rabha, 55, son of late Durgeswas Rabha, hails from Chanatapara village under Borbari Police Station of Baska district, an official source informed

On receipt of the information, OC, Katlicherra Police Station followed by senior officers from headquarters rushed to the site of the incident. The havildar was found lying in a pool of blood along with the service carbine on his left thigh.

Superintendent of Police, Pabindra Kumar Nath, said, “It is very unfortunate that the havildar named Suren Rabha had shot himself with his service carbine. We had recovered four rounds of blank cartridges and our investigation is going on.”

On preliminary investigation it has been learnt from the inmates that he was posted at the BoP two months ago and his behaviour was quite normal before the incident happened. No suicide note was found.

The service carbine along with two magazines, four rounds of blank cartridges and 66 rounds of remaining live ammunition were seized.

Following Inquest and autopsy examination, the body was sent to the headquarter of 15 AP (IR) Battalion at Eraligool from where it was taken to his native place.

A case No.03/2020 has been registered at the Katlicherra Police Station in this connection
