Double in a week: Jharkhand cases

Ranchi:  The coronavirus cases in Jharkhand doubled over the last one week taking the total number to 1,144 on Monday.
The highest number of 113 cases were found on Sunday, on Friday and Saturday, 93 and 91 positive cases were reported, respectively. In three days, 296 new cases have been reported.
The number of cases in the state was 521 on May 31 and by June 8, it has gone up to 1,144, of whom 490 have been cured and sent back home, according to state health ministry data.
The migrant labourers who returned over the last one month, 820 have contributed to the state tally.
Till June 7, a total 87,721 people have been tested for coronavirus. The average positive test in every 100 test is 2.3 in June.
From June 8 hotels, religious places, restaurants have been opened in the country but these will remain closed till June 30 in Jharkhand. The clothes, footwear shops are also closed in the state.
The coronavirus cases have spread in all the 24 districts. The fear of the pandemic has led to superstitious beliefs, and after Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and assam, now women in Jharkhand are also praying to ‘Corona Devi’.
The women on a regular basis in different districts are gathering in large numbers along with Pooja materials like Sindoor, Lawong, flowers, Ladoos, water in pot. They sit around a tree and worship the Coronavirus goddess. These women sing songs to appease the coronavirus goddess.
Till date, nine people have lost their lives to the pandemic in Jharkhand.(IANS)
