SHILLONG: Former NEIGRIHMS director DM Thappa said all his actions and contributions to the Institute were in public interest.
In a message to the public on Wednesday, without mentioning the controversies in NEIGRIHMS, Thappa said he has no grievances against anyone.
“Directors will come and go, but institute should grow and flourish in the right direction”, he said.
Thappa, who was relieved of the post of director on June 1, rejoined JIPMER, Puducherry, on June 4.
“My journey back was full of hurdles due to lockdown with requirement of e-passes at each border”, he said.
He also thanked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Governor Thathagata Roy for their support in laying the foundation for tele-consultation services recently.
According to Thappa, his stint at NEIGRIHMS was three years and forty-five days. “Surprisingly, I was in the elite group of four directors who had completed three-years or so. None of the previous Directors had completed the full five-year tenure. You may ponder over the possible reasons”, he said.
Recalling the achievement of the institute during his tenure, Thappa said that one of his dream projects was the implementation of gas-manifold system, which was completed in April this year.
He also said that the ethics committee of the institute got recognition for the first time from Drug Controller General of India in 2017.
While stating that post graduate teaching programmes were existent only in five departments when he had joined, Thappa said that the MD Radiodiagnosis department and MD General Medicine got recognition in 2018 and 2019.
Owing to efforts of the faculty and dean of the institute, six more PG courses were started in the departments of ENT, Forensic medicine, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Biochemistry and Pharmacology, he added.
“Several workshops related to research ethics and methodology, and scientific paper writing and book writing were held during my tenure. A few regional and national conferences were also held,” Thappa said.
Besides these, the former NEIGRIHMS director also dwelt on a number of other milestones that the institute had reached during his period of service.
