SHILLONG: The BAKDIL-run Gabil PHC, on Tuesday, carried out free antenatal check-up for women as part of the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA) in Garo Hills, a statement issued here
said.
PMSMA is a programme that aims to provide assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care, free-of-cost, for all expecting mothers on the 9th of every month.
It guarantees a minimum package of antenatal care services to women in their second and third trimester of pregnancy.
In Garo Hills, most of the women are anaemic which boosts perinatal risks for mothers and increases infant mortality.
This is because of the consumption of sodium bicarbonate and lack of proper nutriment.
An anaemic multigravida mother with below seven per cent haemoglobin has been injected 10 ml IMAX injection with 300ml normal saline which will be repeated on alternate days for 3 doses, the statement said.
“Mothers are aware of their monthly check-up and they come to the PHC for doing so. ASHA workers are assisting every ANC mother and bringing them to the centre,” said the statement.
During the PMSMA programme, the awareness has also been given about healthy diet and antenatal and postnatal care.
