SHILLONG: A total of 3,591 candidates appeared for the Mathematics exam on Wednesday, which is also the last day of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations.
In Khasi and Jaintia Hills, the 2,847 candidates were present for the Mathematics exam. In Garo Hills, the total number of candidates stood at 744.
On the other hand, 324 students availed the facility from their own district headquarters. As many as 3,779 students were supposed to sit for the examinations across 59 examination centres. The HSSLC examination ended on Wednesday giving relief to the students who appeared for the paper amidst the pandemic.
It may be mentioned that the examinations for some subjects, which had to be rescheduled due to the COVID-19 lockdown in the state, commenced from Monday at different examination centres. Due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, students, who were to write examinations outside their hometowns, have been forced to return home and arrangement has been made by the government to allow them to appear for the remaining exams from centres set up at their own district headquarters.
While HSSLC students all over the state appeared for the Statistics examination on Monday, physical education and western music was held on Tuesday followed by Mathematics on Wednesday.
There are 25 centres in Shillong. However, the Statistics examination was held in only one centre owing to less number of students appearing for the paper.
For Mathematics examination, 40 centres were set up in East Khasi Hills alone.
