SHILLONG: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Raksamgre Regional Unit has alleged that members of a local committee are planning to cut a portion of the MGNREGS wages as per the order of the BDO of Tikrikilla C&RD Block.
In a press release issued here, the Garo Students’ Union claimed that leaders of Raksamgre Area Development Committee, on the pretext of the advice or order of the BDO of Tikrikilla C&RD Block, are allegedly trying to make the presidents and secretaries of the Village Employment Councils (VECs) to surrender five-day MGNREGS wage by all VECs in the area.
After getting information about the move, the VECs have asked the district administration and all other authorities concerned to look into the matter, the Union said.
The GSU also urged the state government to increase the number of days of employment by another 50 in view of the nationwide lockdown and loss of jobs.
