SHILLONG: The executive committee of Dorbar Khliehshnong under Hima Sohra has barred tourists from visiting places of tourist attraction falling under the jurisdiction of Dong Khliehsnong, Sohra.
In a statement issued here, the Dorbar Khliehshnong said it took the decision after seeing the increasing footfall in the tourist spots amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The famous tourist spots under Khliehshnong are Noh-Ka-Likai Waterfall, Daiñthlen and some other places at Dong Khliehsnong.
The Dorbar has warned that strict action will be taken against violators who will be handed over to the authorities and will also be fined.
The Dorbar Khliehshnong has requested the adjacent villages to be vigilant and to have better cooperation and coordination in dealing with illegal entry of tourists so that the local residents feel safe and secure.
Asked, the Dorbar Khliehshnong leaders said that the people who visit the places are a mixed group – both indigenous and non-indigenous — but do not know whether they are from the state or outside.
It may be mentioned that the state government has decided to close down all tourist places to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
