SHILLONG: Following the construction activity of motorable bridge being stalled in view of the lockdown, MDC of Sohryngkham and Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Pyniaid Syiem, has urged Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong to resume the construction of the bridge at the earliest for the benefit of the people.
Speaking to reporters, Syiem said the motorable bridge is important as it connects Dong Umbah, Umpling and Them Rynjah.
It may be mentioned that the bridge was being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore under the Central Road Funds (CRF).
The deputy chief minister said the chief engineer and executive engineer from the PWD Central Division will be called to ensure construction activity is restarted.
The headmen of Rynjah, Umpling and Nongrim Hills along with Syeim had inspected the bridge on June 16.
On the other hand, Syiem also said that the three Dorbar Shnong and the MDC have decided to make a proposal for constructing motorable bridge at Dong Sharum, Umpling, to connect Madan Rumnong, Nongrim Hills, which will ease the congestion in the neighbouring localities and Shillong as a whole.
In this connection, he has requested the government for a scheme for execution of the proposed project.
Citing the relevance of the bridge, he said that Umpling has a population of over 12,000 and having a bridge will ease traffic issues as people from Rynjah, Nongrim Hills, Umpling and Lapalang will be benefiting from the proposed project.
Meanwhile, Tynsong has assured to have the construction of the proposed bridge in the priority list for sanction.
