Pillar missing at construction site: JSU tells Home minister

SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students’ Union of West Jaintia Hills (JSU-WJC), in a letter to the Home Minister, has apprised him of the Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) structure set up by the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) near the zero line of Indo-Bangla border.
The JSU-WJC, in the letter on Friday, pointed out that the structure was missing a sub-pillar which is located at the Umngot river near the BSF camp site at Dawki.
The union said that as per reports, the structure was meant to be built into a patrol camp by the BGB, which would have facilities such as flood lights.
While expressing resentment with BSF, the union said that it was sitting as a mute spectator. It alleged that the BSF did not react despite its camp being so close to the pillar.
After its recent visit to the site, the union found out that the sub pillar (No. 1273) near the construction site was missing.
It alleged that due to the rampant removal of rocks near the river bank, the football ground had excessively eroded. The union after enquiring with the BOP, Dawki, was informed that the issue was taken up with concerned authorities and all construction works of the RCC structure had been halted.
