JOWAI: The executive member in-charge of Taxation Department of the JHADC exhorted the headmen of West Jaintia Hills to help the District Council detect non-tribal traders who are operating their businesses without valid trading license.
The executive member in-charge, Wining Garland Sungoh, also held a meeting with some of the Rangbah Shnong, particularly those in the commercial areas, to deliberate over the issue.
They also discussed the issue in connection with the practice of Benami and also regarding migrant workers without working permits.
“We had expected that the JHADC would seek our help right from the past in this regard. But we are happy today for the measures taken by Sungoh for holding such an important meeting,” said Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong, LD Lakiang, who is also the headman of Ladthadlaboh.
Laking also informed that the headmen will cooperate with the JHADC in this regard.
It may be mentioned that the JHADC is in an acute financial crisis. It has failed to pay salaries to its staff for many months now. No developmental activities, no grants, et al. “We are working to tackle the crisis and we hope that cooperation from headmen, Dollois and the people will help us improve the present financial crisis of the Council,” Sungoh said.
He also informed that directive has been given to cement plant officials to inform their labourers to come forward and obtain their work permits by registering themselves, failing which the JHADC will not renew their trading licenses.
