SHILLONG: After accusing the Raksamgre Area Development Committee of forcing a five-day wage cut upon the MGNREGS job card holders of various village employment councils (VECs) as per the order of the BDO of Tikrikila, the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Raksamgre Regional Unit said that the matter was “misinformed by some section of people” and that the union was taking a step back from its allegation.
The union, after deliberating on the subject with the representatives of the committee, learned that the Raksamgre Area Development Committee had only put forth a proposal to reconstruct the recently washed-out bridge by utilising the MGNREGS scheme with the consent of the concerned VECs.
After the proposal was made to the VECs, they were asked to seek the consent of the job card holders.
With most of the VECs giving varied opinions on the proposal, the wage cut had become null and void. The union said that the VECs did not force upon them to accept the five-day wage cut.
