JSU for ex gratia to kin of victims

SHILLONG: The Jaintia Students Union (JSU) has asked the government to allocate ex gratia to the family of the six victims who died after consuming mushrooms in Lamin village, West Jaintia Hills.
In a statement issued here, the union said the families of the deceased persons have been facing hardships in the wake of the untimely demise of the breadwinner and are currently orphaned with no guardian to look after them.
The president of the JSU, Shillong Circle, has submitted and placed before the state government a letter of request for allocation of ex gratia to the family of victims before the office of SDO, Amlarem Sub-Division, and local MLA of Amlarem Constituency, Lahkmen Rymbui.
The JSU president said that between the month of April and May, six people had died at Lamin village after consuming the mushrooms.
Stating that the government must take prompt action, he said that despite informing the government, no financial succor to the family has been rendered till date.
