SHILLONG: Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh informed that the construction of the new Assembly building at Mawdiangdiang in New Shillong Township will likely be completed around December next year.
The Speaker, on Tuesday, inspected the construction work at the site and held a review meeting with officials from several departments.
Speaking after the inspection, Metbah said, “Completion of construction of the new Assembly should be within the time we have set. We intend to complete the construction by December 2021 to January 2022”. He assured that the project was not handicapped by financial shortage and added, “I am happy that the chief minister also assured that special attention will be given for the construction of the new building”.
The Speaker also stated that the building will become a pride for the state after its completion.
Metbah also added that since the construction of the building was a massive project, there were some problems that had arisen from time to time. He expressed satisfaction with the level of coordination undertaken by officers of every department.
The construction of the Rs 127-crore new Assembly building, which is being handled by Uttar Pradesh-based Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd, began in June last year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction work witnessed a two-month halt only to be resumed in May.
