TURA: South West Garo Hills police have arrested a village nokma and another man who have sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in the Salmanapra area of the district on several occasions. The victim is said to be mentally challenged.
The girl’s family came to know only last week that their daughter had been sexually assaulted by her own brother-in-law and the village nokma on several occasions. They reported the matter to police and both men have since been arrested under the POCSO Act and sent to custody.
The Nokma who also happens to be a teacher has been identified as Jamesbright Sangma of the same village.
“During investigation the victim revealed that she was also sexually assaulted by her brother-in-law. We have registered two separate cases and both have been arrested,” informed district SP Rituraj Ravi.
