TURA: An unidentified trader who visited a local market in the Chinabat area of East Garo Hills was abducted by a criminal gang on Monday morning.
The abduction would have gone unnoticed had it not been for two villagers who alerted police after witnessing the incident.
The two villagers, who were coming from Chinabat to Rombagre on Monday morning, heard cries for help when they reached the village of Romba Adinggre. They saw a non-tribal man being forcibly led away from a Mahindra Pik-Up (ML08 G 7291) by a gang of criminals led by a man who was identified to be from a nearby village.
Hearing the cries for help they tried to intervene but were threatened with dire consequences by the gang.
The duo made their way back to Rongram Police Station and narrated the incident following which police have launched a search operation to trace the trader and nab the culprits.
