Tura: Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) organised a protest in Tura against recent fuel hike with a demand for its scaling down.

“The common man is bearing the brunt of the unprecedented crisis due to the outbreak of COVID 19 and the unplanned lockdown imposed by the Modi government. Instead of helping the people, PM Modi and his government continues to loot the people of India by not just raising fuel rates on a daily basis but also refusing to share benefits of lower crude oil prices with people,” said MPYC president, Richard Marak in a statement.

The Congress have been miffed with the Modi government for raising the prices of petrol by Rs. 8.5/ltr and Diesel by Rs.10.49/ltr in last two weeks even though global crude oil prices have touched a historic low.

“Excise duty on petrol was a mere ₹9.20/litre and on diesel, it was ₹3.46/litre in May 2014. After the Modi government assumed office they have hiked the same by 258% and 820% respectively. The current excise duty stands at ₹23.78/litre on petrol and ₹28.37 on diesel,” pointed out the youth congress.

The Congress also accused the Modi government of lacking transparency mentioning that the central government earned a windfall of  ₹18,00,000 crores from a huge hike on excise duty towards fuel but it never reached the people of India.
