TURA: Adviser to the Chief Minister and North Tura MLA, Thomas A Sangma, on Thursday laid the foundation stone for a new water supply project at Dabitbibra in Baghmara region of South Garo Hills.
The function was attended, among others, by legislators Marcuise N Marak, Ferline CA Sangma, Brening A Sangma, Samuel M Sangma and Rakkam A Sangma.
Addressing the gathering, Thomas Sangma stated that the Dabitbibra water supply scheme was just the beginning of a series of projects that the government will initiate to mitigate the problem of shortage of drinking water.
“This may look like a small project of just Rs 3 crore, but we are optimistic that this will meet the needs of the people to a certain extent. It may look small but bigger projects are also in the pipe line,” he added.
In addition, The North Tura MLA also informed that funds will be released for the Baghmara Government College building project and two more Eklavya residential schools will be set up in South Garo Hills.
Williamnagar MLA Marcuise Marak urged the PHE Department to encourage the use of local labourers to complete the project on time while at the same time calling for sustained cooperation between the government and the public for quick completion of the project.
