Ri Bhoi gets lay-bye market

NONGPOH: Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh, on Thursday, inaugurated the much-awaited Umryngksai Agri Lay-Bye Market located on the National Highway-6 in Ri Bhoi.
The market was constructed at an estimated amount of Rs 75 lakh.
It includes one mini restaurant, 10 fruit stalls and one used and pay toilet.
Implemented by District Rural Development Agency, Ri Bhoi, together with the District Horticulture department as the nodal agency during 2017-20, the market was sanctioned under Special Central Assistance of 2013-14 and 2014-15.
Speaking on the occasion, the agriculture minister said that the market will create avenues for livelihood generation and improve the economic status of farmers.
Emphasising on schemes and projects that have been implemented for farmers such as PM-KISAN, Banteidor urged the farmers to share their needs and problems with the government officials.
While encouraging the local farmers, the minister said that they should seize all opportunities presented to them and also spoke on the need for more markets.
Later, the agriculture minister along with Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem attended an interaction programme with the farmers of the area at the District Library, Nongpoh.
