SHILLONG: As skirmishes keep occurring along the Assam-Meghalaya boundary, the state BJP has decided to initiate talks with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal post lockdown.
“We were about to take an appointment with Assam Chief Minister but due to the lockdown we are stuck,” BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said.
Stating that after the lockdown this will be the state BJP’s main agenda, Mawrie informed that the party has already set up a committee to look into the issue of border dispute with Assam.
“I and our team have already visited Block-I and Block-II areas and have met the stakeholders, the headman and the local representatives,” he added.
There are twelve areas of dispute between Meghalaya and Assam and tension flares up very often in many parts with both sides claiming ownership.
