Month-long plantation drive of TAC concludes

TURA: The nearly one month long plantation drive conducted by the Tura Adventure Club (TAC) concluded on Monday at Jengjal in West Garo Hills, 30 kilometres from Tura.

The plantation drive began on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5 and continued all throughout the month resulting in the plantation of over 1500 saplings at various locations. A total of 400+ saplings were planted on the concluding day along Tura to Shillong via Nongstoin highway.

The drive was initiated by TAC along with PWD (R) Western Zone and Social Forestry Tura. Other clubs like Tura Motor Sports Club (TMSC), Tura Runners Club(TRC) & NH-51 R.E.B.E.L.S Club also joined the plantation Drive.

The concluding programme began at around 9am with the club members gathering at Bolbokgre LP school in Jengjal.

Earlier, before the start of the plantation, Pwd Additional Chief Engineer Gromyko K. Marak and Madam Jejebeld Arengh, Beat Range officer, Social forestry, Tura spoke a few words on environmental benefits of tree plantations and correct ways of planting saplings.
