WGH to conduct random swab test from Thursday

TURA: In view of rising cases of Covid-19 in neighbouring Assam, the West Garo Hills District Administration has decided to conduct random swab test of high risk individuals like drivers, shopkeepers, hawkers, hair stylists, policemen, bank and other government employees from Thursday.

The decision towards the move was informed by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram singh in a meeting held at DRDA Hall in Tura on Wednesday, to discuss measures to be taken to stay safe in the wake of increasing number of cases in the neighbouring state.

During the meeting, all concerned committees and government establishments were advised to identify and send the names of the individuals to be tested to the District Surveillance Officer, Tura. However, Ram Singh cautioned the people that these are being tested on random basis as precautionary measure and they should not be considered as positive cases or stigmatised in any way.

Mentioning about the Behavioural Change Model of the Meghalaya Government to be implemented in all the districts, he said that training is being given to bring about a change in the behaviour of people to effectively help them manage Covid-19 pandemic situation in the state and also to sensitize the elderly, pregnant women, vulnerable groups and high risk individuals to stay fit and healthy amidst this pandemic. Besides, emphasizing on immunity, he said that personal immunity is the best protection hence, taking care of one’s health by practicing regular walking, exercise, eating locally available organic fruits and vegetables loaded with vitamins and other minerals are necessary to boost the immune system and help to stay fit and healthy.

During the meeting, District Surveillance Officer, IDSP, Tura Dr. Mukrang Terang while pointing out that post lockdown, people are venturing out for various purposes which is a concern and said that Random Test will be done in every block with set targets and at present 50 samples will be tested per week in every block. Further, he reminded that persons doing random test need not do quarantine and the test will be done at ISBT, Chasingre from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM everyday from Monday to Sunday.
