TURA: The All Meghalaya Minorities Students’ Union (AMMSU) on Wednesday sought the official declaration of the flood situation in the plain belt regions of West Garo Hills and to provide financial assistance to those affected, while the district administration has said that it is yet to receive the ground report of the situation from concerned officials.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the union informed that flood waters have affected the entire plain belt region right from Tikrikilla to Mahendraganj rendering many people homeless due to the absence of proper relief camps.
The union added that crops like paddy, vegetables et al, have been destroyed in the floods resulting in great loss to the farmers.
Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh when contacted informed that the flood situation is yet to be declared in the region as no official report of the situation has been received from the BDOs as of now.
“We are still monitoring the situation. We have to get the official report and then, we will declare the flood,” he said.
