SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills has advised people to be cautious against online scammers.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, the SP said when dealing on the OLX platform, buyers should meet the sellers in person before transferring any money. Besides, the official also advised against interstate transactions.
“In case of any such scamming, the general public are requested to approach the nearest Police Station/Police Beat House/Police Out-Post or Cyber Assistance Cell (CAC), CID, Meghalaya, Shillong,” the statement said.
It has been observed that a lot of people have been duped by scammers posing as sellers on OLX who attached genuine-looking documents like ID proof of paramilitary forces, receipts from courier companies, etc. in order to trap the customers. The scammers’ contact numbers go off line once the amount has been transferred by gullible customers.
