SHILLONG: The dorbar shnong of Mawrynkneng and Sohryngkham have written to the Power Minister, James Sangma, requesting the latter for readdressing the present issue of electricity outstanding bills in Mawryngkneng and Sohryngkham Village.
In the letter, the sordar shnong of Mawrynkneng, Peter Lawai, and Sordar of Sohryngkham, I Dkhar, said the consumers from the two villages have been paying the electricity bill regularly for yesteryears.
However, this year, electricity bills ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 30,000 per household as outstanding bills came as a bolt from the blue to the villagers.
The two sordars had lodged a complaint to the office of MePDCL Shillong and had asked the latter to look into the matter and solve the problem as soon as possible. It was after the investigation of the matter that the MePDCL found that the VLE/franchisee was noting down the readings from the metre inaccurately as per unit consumed.
“Till date, the MePDCL office has been forcing the consumers to pay and clear all the outstanding bills instead of taking action against the VLE/franchisee,” the letter stated.
The two sordars have requested the minister to solve the problem at the earliest by exempting the consumers from paying the outstanding amount.
They also said the VLE/franchisee CSC should be made responsible for the malpractice on the issue.
