SHILLONG: The FKJGP, Aradonga area, on Tuesday highlighted the need for the setting up of a police check point at the road through Rangsapara to Boko and Hahim in the wake of COVID-19 cases being reported from Boko, a town in neighbouring Assam.
Lauding the police personnel who work day and night, the FKJGP said that the setting up of check points is imperative, adding that many use the road for travel between Meghalaya and Assam, which poses a threat to the residents of West Khasi Hills. The FKJGP also expressed its gratitude to the government for providing a scanning machine at Athiabari check point to screen people for COVID-19, who travel from Assam to West Khasi Hills.
In a statement issued here, the orgainsation president, Trelling D Shira, however, reiterated that no one is being able to operate the machine. The statement said that the government had appointed a magistrate for the purpose, who was given training to operate the machine but only for a day, which is not sufficient. As of now, only one or two para-medical staff work at the check point.
