Dists advise public to be alert after weather warning

SHILLONG/MAWKYRWAT: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), in a weather warning report, said thunderstorm with lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in the state between July 9 and 13.
In this connection, the district administrations of East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills, in separate advisories issued on Thursday, have advised the public to take extra care in this period of 5 days.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner & CEO, District Disaster Management Authority, East Khasi Hills, in a statement, said that there is likelihood of flash floods, especially in areas near river.
“People are advised not to drive through flooded areas and to stay away from electric poles or power lines,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, asked the people to avoid fishing and visiting rivers.
She requested the people to inform the DC’s office, Ranikor Sub-Division or the BDOs of Mawkyrwat and Ranikor Block about any incident related to the weather warning.
