WGH SP sounds alarm over online fraud
TURA: With a considerable surge in cases related to online frauds and scams, West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police has exhorted everyone to follow various do and don’ts when they get calls from online fraudsters. Stating that the online scammers have found a new way to dupe people of their money by using the medium of online shopping sites and e-wallets like Flipkart, Olx and Paytm, the SP has urged the citizens to not fall prey to any such calls claimings or offerings, and also to not respond to calls that seek personal information or money. Stating that these fraudsters sometimes pretend to be a Bank representative, sometimes a government official, a family member, etc., the Superintendent of Police also urged everyone to not divulge the information.
Ban on bottled correcting fluid
TURA: West Garo Hills District Magistrate has prohibited the sale and productions of bottled correcting fluid including thinners of any chemical composition, both for ink-erasing purposes as well for nail polish removers and for other similar purposes for retail sales in the entire district. The order is in pursuance of the directive issued by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, which has banned the sale and production of the said materials.
EKH prohibits killing of fish
SHILLONG: In the wake of the reports of fish-killing in the district, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has prohibited illegal killing of fishes at river Umngot. It may be mentioned that there have been reports of some miscreants allegedly killing fishes along the stretch of the river Umngot which passes through Mawpyrshong and Kut village and other villages under Mawryngkneng C&RD Block by using poisonous chemicals and explosives.
Unclaimed body
SHILLONG: A male patient, viz. Raju Sangma, 29, C/o Shelter Home Municipal, East Khasi Hills, was admitted to Civil Hospital on June 24 at 1:03 pm, following which he passed away on July 9 at 7:45 pm. A statement issued on Monday has requested concerned relatives to collect the body from the hospital morgue within a period of three days, failing which, the body will be sent for disposal by the Shillong Municipal Board.
Hearing postponed
SHILLONG: In view of the situation prevailing due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Meghalaya State Commission for Women has deferred the hearing that was scheduled for July 16 and 23 until further notice.
