NONGSTOIN: A vast stretch in National Highway 127–B connecting Nongstoin to Rongjeng road cracked open on Sunday night due to rainfall lashing the district bordering East Garo Hills, following which the vehicular movement on the busy stretch came to a grinding halt.
The Superintending Engineer of PWD Road Western Circle, M Dhar, then visited the spot along with the Executive Engineer PWD (R) Nongstoin Division on Monday. After the inspection, the superintendent of PWD (R) said the length of the crack was more than 50 metre. Stating that there are no casualties reported, he said a report on this matter has been sent to the Chief Engineer, National Highway, Shillong.
Dhar also said landslides had also occurred in some parts along the National Highway, following which the PWD cleared out the debris to avoid any traffic jam.
