SHILLONG: After the resignation of the state BJP vice-president and two other district presidents from Garo Hills hit the social media, the party leadership, on Wednesday, hit back by appointing others.
State BJP chief, Ernest Mawrie, appointed Ronald S Sangma as district president of Tura City (organisational district), a statement said.
Ronald S Sangma is a retired MCS officer.
Mawrie also appointed John Bosco Momin as president of North Garo Hills District and Rev Phriswell Pnar as district president of Ri Bhoi.
The party chief had, earlier in the day, said that he is yet to receive the resignation officially albeit he had seen the letter in a WhatsApp group.
Mawrie, however, said that he will consult the BJP legal group and decide the road ahead.
Asked if this is a setback for the BJP, Mawrie said that in a political party everyone has own ambitions and they cannot be stopped but down the line, there are many leaders who want to join the party. He added that this is a blessing as the party will now have new faces working.
Three BJP leaders — John Manner Marak, state vice-president, Utzol Sangma, Tura District president and Omillo K Sangma, North Garo Hills  District president — had tendered their resignations.
According to the resigning leaders, despite the sincere and honest work put in by Garo Hills leaders, the state BJP office in Shillong disbelieves them and circulated a strong order and new set of rules for only Garo Hills region.
The leaders, in the letter, stated that in a political party there should be inner democracy and free hand should be given to strengthen the party, but now there is no hope and strengthening the party is a distant dream.
