SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified vigil along the Indo-Bangla border and in the process thwarted attempts of smuggling cattle and other utilities from the state into the neighbouring country.
The BSF troops posted at the mobile check post in Sonapur, East Jaintia Hills on Tuesday seized 20 heads of cattle, which were cramped in a truck, near Umkiang.
The BSF observed that the cattle were tethered tightly with rope in a pathetic condition.
They were likely to be smuggled into Bangladesh, the BSF said in a statement. The cattle heads and truck were handed over to Meghalaya Police, it added.
Meanwhile, BSF troops of 43 Battalion, deployed on the international border of South Garo Hills, seized miscellaneous items including biri, shampoo, cream, soap, oil etc., worth over Rs 90,000. The items were handed over to the Customs department.
