TURA: The arrival of a fresh new batch of CRPF personnel into East Garo Hills on Thursday afternoon raised alarm among the citizens and local organizations of Williamnagar prompting them to submit a list of queries to the Deputy Commissioner with regard to safety measures in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A total of 52 CRPF personnel meant for law and order duty arrived in the district from Nagaland on Thursday. Soon after their arrival organizations from the district including the GSU, FKJGP, FAF and AHAM along with residents dashed off a letter to the Deputy Commissioner raising safety concerns especially in view of the majority of the active cases prevalent among other security forces like the BSF in various parts of the state. The joint representation also made queries on what safety measures were being taken to ensure that personnel coming from outside do not spread the virus.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe when contacted said that the move was a government decision and all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the people.

“The samples of all the 52 personnel who arrived in the district have been sent for testing. They will all be undergoing a 14 day quarantine period and we will ensure that all other protocols are maintained,” Tembe assured.
