NONGSTOIN/ MAWKYRWAT/NONGPOH: In view of the surging COVID-19 cases in the state, the district administrations of West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills have ramped up testing in the respective regions to prevent the outbreak of the disease.
In West Khasi Hills district, the office of the District Medical and Health Officer and the district administration had collected around 120 samples for COVID-19 tests in the last few days.
The tests were also conducted on Wednesday in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where the swab samples of the DC and the magistrates were also collected for COVID-19 tests.
Tests will also be conducted in Nongstoin Market on Thursday, on shop owners and sellers, commuters and local taxi drivers.
Random testing
Meanwhile, the Health department, on Wednesday, conducted random COVID-19 tests on the public as well as armed forces in Mawkyrwat and Ranikor block.
Tests were conducted on a total of 83 persons including the BSF and the results are awaited.
Out of the 83 persons, 60 are from Mawkyrwat Block and 23 from Ranikor Block which include 19 BSF personnel, three cops and a civilian, sources said.
It was also informed that the results of the test of 60 persons conducted last week in South West Khasi Hills have come out negative.
“The group consisted of 30 BSF personnel from Ranikor Block and 30 people from Mawkyrwat Block which included shopkeepers, especially those who travel to Shillong for purchasing essential commodities. The results of the 60 tests have come out negative,” it added.
Ambulance

Meanwhile, Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun, on Wednesday, handed over one ambulance funded by Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to Patharkhmah CHC.
The ambulance was given with an aim to cater to the patients from Jirang Constituency.
During the day, random tests for COVID-19 were conducted in which the MLA and all the officers present in the function were also tested.
