SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), while guarding the International border, are also setting an example of deep friendship between them and are acting as ambassadors of their respective countries.
While on the western border, BSF faces an adversary in Pakistan army and Pakistan Rangers, on the eastern border, BSF and BGB are proving to be strong allies in fighting smuggling and other transborder crimes. The trust, understanding and coordination between the two are unparalleled and touching new heights, according to UK Nayal, DIG PRO of BSF Meghalaya Frontier.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, he said in the time of COVID-19 and floods, both the forces are tackling smuggling and other transborder crimes with excellent coordination and trust among them. There is smooth exchange of information between the forces upon which prompt action is being taken.
Both are carrying out simultaneous coordinated patrols in sensitive patches to curb smuggling and to create a sense of security among the border population.
The forces are also prompt in responding to each other’s call, the statement said, while citing instances.
Earlier this year, an INSAS rifle and a magazine were snatched away by Bangladesh miscreants after a surprise attack on BSF patrol of BOP Rongtilla, but these were recovered soon after the BGB approached.
In another instance, during Amphan cyclone, a BSF speed boat with six troops on board was swept away towards Bangladesh into the strong currents of the river, Dova. The BGB acted promptly and rescued the troopers, who later returned safely.
Nayal said India and Bangladesh shared a common history and a very strong relationship which is reflected on the border guarding forces of both the countries.
