MAWKYRWAT: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills District along with Mawkyrwat Circle and Ngunraw Unit, on Friday, donated essential commodities to an underprivileged family at Ngunraw village in South West Khasi Hills.
The family comprises 38-year-old single mother, Mrasidora Thongni, and her eight children (four girls and boys each) with the youngest son being just one-month-old.
After receiving information about the family, the Union rushed to the village and learned that they were temporarily staying in a neighbour’s house and did not even own one.
The Union lauded the village leadership as the family was given a cushion during hard times.
The KSU urged the district administration to look into the problems faced by the people due to the current crisis arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The state government should ensure that needy avail job cards so that they can be involved in the MGNREGS works and benefit through the scheme, Union finance secretary, Marconi Thongni, said.
