NONGPOH: The highly decomposed body packed inside a plastic bag which was retrieved from Umpyrli river in Ri Bhoi district on Friday night was identified to be that of a senior citizen, Klai Mukhim, a resident of Pahamriniai village.
The body was identified by the family of the deceased at Civil Hospital Nongpoh on Saturday. It may be mentioned that Mukhim has been missing from his residence from July 9, and since then, he could not be traced.
It was on Friday evening that a group of fishermen at Umpyrli River, Lad Iewsier, Saiden noticed the plastic bag emanating foul smell. They immediately informed the village leaders of Saiden village who later called the police.
The body, which was neatly packed inside the plastic bag, was brought to Civil Hospital after retrieving it from the river.
It is suspected that Mukhim was murdered as portions of his head were fully damaged. The miscreants after committing the crime, packed the body of Mukhim into the plastic bag, and threw it into Umpyrli river. Ri Bhoi police is conducting an investigation into the matter.
