Courthouse set on fire during protest
Oakland: Protesters in California set fire to a courthouse, damaged a police station and assaulted officers after a peaceful demonstration intensified late Saturday, Oakland police said.
Demonstrators broke windows, spray painted graffiti, shot fireworks and pointed lasers at officers, the Oakland department said on Twitter.
Several tweets called for peace and asked organisers to help us provide safe spaces and safe places for demonstrators.
The fire broke out at the Alameda County Superior Courthouse and was contained a short time later, news outlets reported. (AP)

Hurricane Hanna makes landfall
Houston: Hanna, the first of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, has made landfall in the US state of Texas, with maximum winds of 90 mph and heavy rains.
Hanna morphed from a tropical storm into a Category 1 hurricane on Saturday and made landfall on Padre Island at 5 p.m., about 53 km south of Corpus Christi, Xinhua news agency quoted the National Hurricane Center as saying.
Heavy rain, strong winds and storm surge impacted the southern Texas coast. Some meteorologists warned of flash flooding and local authorities asked residents to stay home. (IANS)

Car hits pedestrians
Berlin: At least five people were injured in the German capital early Sunday morning after a car drove off the road and into pedestrians.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. in Berlin’s Hardenbergplatz, outside the Zoological Garden train station, the dpa news reported. Berlin’s fire department said in a Twitter update that some of the pedestrians sustained serious injuries, and that a rescue helicopter was deployed to help. Further details were not immediately available. (AP)

Major terror bid foiled in Pak
Quetta: Pakistani security forces foiled a major terror bid and killed a key militant in Balochistan province following an intelligence-based operation (IBO) on a hideout, the military’s media wing said.
The intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out by Frontier Corps (FC) Balochistan on Saturday in Buleda tehsil, Kech district, reports Dawn news. The operation was carried out the same day a Pakistan Army soldier was killed while three others sustained injuries in an ambush on their convoy in the same area. (IANS)
