SHILLONG: On Donkupar Roy’s first death anniversary, the United Democratic Party will organise a prayer meeting to remember the veteran leader, who had passed away on July 28 last year.
UDP’s Jemino Mawthoh said that the party fondly remembers Roy as a veteran in state politics, who served the people for almost four decades.
“He is a hardcore regional politician and has held almost all the important positions in the state such as the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Cabinet minister, Leader of Opposition and most importantly the architect of the ruling dispensation,” the UDP senior leader Mawthoh said, adding that Roy will continue to be a good example to the rank and file of the regional party.
He further informed that the prayer meeting would be attended by the top brass of the party in view of the ongoing pandemic.
New JHADC chairman
Meanwhile, the United Democratic Party congratulated Dr Sankey Shangpung, who was elected as the Chairman of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.
“The UDP would like to extend its best wishes to the young UDP leader and hope that he will be able to steer the JHADC in the right course,” Mawthoh said.
