Cop dies at quarantine centre

NONGPOH: A constable of the Meghalaya Police, 1st Battalion, identified as Ajay Baidya (54) succumbed to his illness on Thursday at a quarantine centre of the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) located at 13th Mile Byrnihat.
As per reliable sources, the policeman was sent to the quarantine centre after he was identified as one of secondary contacts of the COVID-19 patient. He initially complained of stomach pain and later vomited blood and fell unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
When contacted, Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner RM Kurbah informed that the cop who had tested negative for COVID-19 died due to other ailments.
The body of Baidya was later sent to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
