SHILLONG: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Meghalaya has welcomed the National Education Policy (NEP).
In a press release on Saturday, the student body called the new policy a “revolutionary” step that has come after three decades.
“This change is not just in the name of HRD Ministry to Education Ministry, but the entire education has been restructured. It is an India-centric education policy that contributes directly to transforming our nation sustainably into an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing high quality education to all”, the release said.
The ABVP also said that the restructured 5+3+3+4 pattern can be given to a child right from Aganwadi/ pre-primary school .Vocational course and coding will be introduced from class 6 onwards where children can learn from local trainer having training in vocational profession, it added.
”It also pointed out that making regional language compulsory will build a bridge to education. “This narrows the gap between speaking language and learning language and also recognise the importance of local languages which are at the verge of extinction,” it said.
Praising the NEP, the student body also said some top universities of the world can set up their institutions in India with proper law and guidelines so that students do not have to pay a hefty price by going abroad, leading to brain drain in India.
“This will take the education sector in India towards a holistic approach where students will be prepared for life and not for mere jobs,” said the statement.
