One killed after assault
On August 1 evening, Anowar Hossain (45) was assaulted at Bhotdoba, West Garo Hills. As a result, the victim sustained injuries and was shifted to Bhaitbari PHC. However, on August 2, the victim succumbed to his injuries on the way to Civil Hospital Tura.

200 sleeping pills recovered
Acting on inputs, police, on August 6, around 5 pm, arrested Ajit Kumar Ray (36) from Lower Nongrim Hills, Shillong, and seized two hundred Nitrazepam tablets (Nitravet-10), a drug used for treating short-term sleeping problems, from his possession.

Smuggling bid foiled
On August 6, police conducted search in the house of Poh Pohleng at Iarbamon village under Pynursla PS, East Khasi Hills and seized ten gunny bags containing chewing gums. During enquiry, it transpired that the items were meant for selling to Bangladesh.

Threatened
Teri Sangma lodged a complaint (August 5) that a fair price shop dealer, Nanseng Marak of Durapara village, South West Garo Hills, received her BPL ration card from the Supply Office, Ampati, and failed to hand over the same to her. When the complainant went to his residence to ask for her BPL ration card, he refused to hand it over. The dealer then attacked and also threatened her with dire consequences.

Curfew violation
Roger BR Marak, Executive Magistrate, Zone-V, lodged a complaint that on August 3, around 11 pm, Chinchin Marak along with Chuara Ch Momin and Zamzam Marak, were found roaming and consuming alcohol in and around Normal Compound Area, West Garo Hills, in violation of Section 144 CrPC promulgated in the district.

Loot
Narul Haque, driver of one betel nut-laden truck (AS-11CC-7677) lodged a complaint that on August 7, around 3.30 am, four unidentified persons in a vehicle (without number plate) waylaid his truck at Ladrymbai, East Jaintia Hills, forcibly took the truck towards Ladrymbai Bypass and looted Rs 8,000 and two mobile phones.

Two-wheelers stolen
Strongly Syrti lodged a complaint that on August 3, between 9.30 and 10.15 pm, miscreant(s) stole his scooty (ML-05R-2171), which was parked at Nongrim Hills, Shillong.
Jeremy Warjri lodged a complaint that on the intervening night of August 2 and 3, miscreant(s) stole his motorcycle (ML-05T-2655) from Upper Demseiñiong, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. Similarly, another complainant, Roger Valrian Lumlang Malngiang’s motorcycle (ML-05R-5082) was also stolen from the same area and during the same period.

Fraud
Calmbert P Syiem lodged a complaint that on July 31 evening, he received an anonymous phone call, in which the caller introduced himself as Branch Manager, SBI, Iewduh Branch, Shillong, and requested him to submit KYC online, to which the complainant complied. Later, on August 3, the complainant learned that Rs 1,16,000 was fraudulently withdrawn by miscreant(s).

Unauthorised transactions
Phrangsngi Dkhar lodged a complaint that on July 25, his ATM card was lost at Jeep Stand, Shillong. Later, six unauthorised withdrawals amounting to Rs 58,000 took place from his savings account.
Mary B Langstang lodged a complaint that between July 29 and August 3, four unauthorised transactions amounting to Rs 6,176 took place from her account.
