SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner M. War has ruled out immediate lifting of containment zone in Mawbah (Barapathar) despite protests from the residents.
When contacted, War said the decisions taken to contain/lift the containment of any area/ building is based on proper analysis of the ground situation by the medical team in full consultation with other relevant authorities.
Earlier, the DHS (MI) Dr Aman War had also said that the people of the area cannot decide on containment zone.
The residents had protested on Saturday by saying that they were passing their days in extreme hardship since all income sources have dried up and shortage of essentials has become acute.
According to reports, more than 2000 people are suffering from shortage of food, baby food and medicines.
This is despite the claim of the district administration that essentials and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the administration.
However, the deputy commissioner referred to the order issued on August 8 which said that only the compound of Sanisha Kharlukhi at Mawbah was retained as containment area.
