SHILLONG: In a U-turn, an individual, John Rymbai, on Monday said that he levelled false allegations against the SI of Khapmara PIC, Amit Sinha, and was instigated by CSWO President, Agnes Kharshiing, and Ri Bhoi Youth Organisation.
“I had just discussed about it with Agnes Kharshiing and I am saying with my free will that Amit Sinha is in good terms with the people,” Rymbai said.
Terming the allegations against Sinha as false, he added that he came forward on his own to clear his stand on the issue.
To a query about the allegations that Amit Sinha possesses luxury cars, Rymbai said that the neighbours of Sinha park their vehicles at Sinha’s residence.
“ I feel guilty of tarnishing the image of the cop,” he said, adding that his family has also supported him in his stand to clarify on misgivings about the SI.
Earlier, sources had alleged support from the government, coal lobby and some influential residents for Sinha to continue in Ri Bhoi to allegedly facilitate illegal coal trade.
The SI was also accused of having a nexus with coal traders and possessing luxurious vehicles.
Sources had said that in the past, the SI used to drive a vehicle belonging to Hamlen Rymbai, a coal baron and accused in the assault case involving Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma.
