One missing
SHILLONG: One Ramu Roy (27), S/0 BM Roy of Madan Laban, Shillong, was found missing from Green Valley Lumshnong, East Jaintia Hills, since October 18, 2019. According to a police statement, the missing person is 5 feet 2 inch tall and his built is normal. He has a long face, a fair complexion and black hair. He was last seen wearing a pair of green-coloured jeans, black jacket and a pair of slippers. Anyone aware of his whereabouts can contact 0364- 2222214, 0364-22231683 or 9774070078.

Unclaimed body
SHILLONG: One unknown man was found lying unconscious with a head injury near the exit gate of Military Hospital, Shillong, following which he was rushed to Civil Hospital. It was after this that he was referred to NEIGRIHMS for further treatment. However, on August 5, he succumbed to his injuries. His autopsy has been conducted and the body has been kept at NEIGRIHMS Hospital Morgue. The deceased is approximately 50 years old and his hair is short; he is 5’6’’ tall and his complexion is swarthy. Any concerned who can identify the deceased can contact 0364-2224055 or 0364-2222214.

Ri Bhoi extends night curfew
NONGPOH: The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner has extended the night curfew in the district till August 17. According to an order on Tuesday, the curfew will be in force everyday from 9 pm to 5 am. Car passes for timing during the curfew hours can be obtained from www.ribhoi.gov.in. Other relaxations and advisories will remain the same as per earlier orders.

NH-6 in poor condition
JOWAI: The National Highway-6, which was repaired a few years ago, is now in a deplorable condition and requires renovation, particularly along the stretch from Lumshnong to Umkiang and up to Malidor. The road was repaired few years ago after it was handed over to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) by the Public Works Department. Due to the poor condition of the road, many vehicles plying along the stretch of the highway have met with accidents while trying to steer clear of potholes. With a portion of the road at Umkiang village turning completely muddy, the village headman has informed that he has spoken to the NHAI in this regard and was assured that the road will be renovated once monsoon ends.

WhatsApp group helps needy
SHILLONG: Amid the present crisis, a group of like-minded individuals in April formed a WhatsApp group called ‘Relief Assistance’ and marched ahead to help those section of people that have been struggling due to the COVID-19-induced lockdown. So far, the group has provided food items to various needy families across the state and financial assistance to some, besides donating PPE to a quarantine centre. Altogether, the group has lent a helping hand to around 500 families. It also distributed GI sheets to some families to restore/repair the roofs of their houses. The coordinator of the group has thanked the members who have shown active support and participation in taking up the task, which will continue in the future.
