SHILLONG: Days after the Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) cleared the air on “downgrading” of its station in Tura, the state Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) president on Tuesday welcomed the clarification, further seeking upragadation of the Tura-based station.
“We welcome the clarification of Shashi S Vemapti, CEO of Prasar Bharati, and the ADG’s email regarding the issue of downgrading of DDK Tura, which, according to them, was based on fake news. We also appreciate the various organisations coming together, raising their voice for the cause of this landmark institution of the region,” MPYC president, Richard M Marak, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Requesting the stakeholders to voice for the upgradation of the DDK station in Tura, Marak suggested that staff strength should be boosted at the station, thereby providing employment opportunities to local youths.
“We have already made these demands and we feel that making these upgrades will not only enhance the quality of programmes coming from this region and increase reach, but also raise the status of Prasar Bharati as a whole,” the MPYC president said.
