JOWAI: A 23-year-old B.Ed student reportedly drowned on Sunday at Sahksaw in Chamcham village, East Jaintia Hills, which is a part of the Myntdu River.
The body of the youth has not been retrieved despite efforts from the rescue team, police and locals.
Sources informed that the 23-year-old — Riwanki Dkhar of Moolamanoh village — had gone to the river along with her parents.
Sahksaw is a picnic and tourist spot that has claimed many lives over the years. Last year, a youth had also drowned in the same river when he, along with his friends, visited the place.
The locals have used fish nets to prevent the body from being washed away into the Rynji falls as done in the past.
