TURA: The entire area of Tikrikilla Market in West Garo Hills was on Friday sealed and declared a containment zone after 10 persons tested positive for Covid-19 during a random testing conducted in the area.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh while speaking to this reporter confirmed the fresh new cases but said that details were still awaited. “Altogether 10 persons from the market were found positive for the virus during random testing. That is why the entire market area has now been turned into a containment zone,” Ram Singh said.
Soon after the fresh new cases were discovered, a containment order for the entire area was also issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
“Tikrikilla market comes under Tikrikilla PHC and there has been detection of positive cases in the area due to high risk and low risk contacts with Covid-19 patients. Vulnerable and affected areas require aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, isolation and testing as well as containment in the interest of health of the general public against any possible spread of the virus,” the order by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh read.
With the market being declared a containment zone entry into and exit of people from the area has been completely prohibited and the closure of all shops and business establishments including institutions both private and government has been ordered. The supply of essential commodities and medical requirements during the containment period would be looked after by the various teams formed by the district administration.
With the fresh new cases, West Garo Hills which earlier had 82 active cases now has 92.
